I’m Not About Spending All Your Money In The Health Food Store

I’m really passionate about making healthy food available to everyone, whatever budget you are on. When you’re spending your hard earned dollars on food it’s really important to know where to invest. I’m not about spending all your money in the health food store for the latest superfood or supplement. I’m about buying local edible plants straight from the farmer or growing what you can at home. The recipes I create are affordable and accessible to everyone.

It’s The Nutrients In Food That Nourishes Us – FACT!

Vitamin pill, supplements, superfood powders all provide health claims can be a distraction to what nature supplies us. Just imagine if broccoli had a marketing team behind it pushing a list of all the vitamins and minerals it contained! Too many people follow a diet based on antioxidants and proteins – but what on earth do they look like? Do you know what an antioxidant looks like, because I don’t. It’s the food that nourishes us – FACT! So my focus is on the food. To me whole foods means food as nature intended it to be, with as little human interference as possible. What does a carrot require from me? To eat it! All the nourishment is right there, it’s so perfect. The fun we get to have is in enhancing the flavours of these edible plants.

Sourcing Wholefoods – Shake The Hand That Feeds You

The simplest way to start your whole food journey is by visiting your local farmers market and shake the hand that feeds you. Support your local community and know what you are buying. I like to even personally trace the lettuce back to the field to check the chemical-free conditions where it grew. I love our farmers. Not only do I have so much gratitude for them, but also the truck drivers, the seeds, the bugs, the sunshine, and the rain – everything that allowed me to be so lucky as to eat. For so many reasons I suggest you as much as possible “shake the hand that feeds you”. Farmers’ markets are the simplest and easiest way to start that food journey and to save a few dollars.

Growing Your Own Food Is Like Growing Money

The best way to make food more affordable is totally by growing your own. Whether it’s a full on veggie patch or a pot of herbs on the window sill, start with something. There is so much satisfaction in preparing and eating a meal straight from the garden and into the kitchen – it’s how I roll as a chef!

So yes it can be expensive to eat healthy, compared to eating processed rubbish. But if you shop smart and local and grow a few things at home then whole food living is VERY affordable. All my recipes are based around accessible, affordable ingredients and in my eBooks and Online Programs I also give little tips about where to source ingredients and how to choose them. Remember your health is an investment, so spend more where it counts, it’s like having the best health insurance EVER!
