The Latest Food Trends Don’t Transform Us – Real food does

There are so many food trends today with being either macro, vegetarian, pescaterian, lacto-vegetarian, vegan, paleo, dairy free, gluten free, bee-gan (vegan that eats bee products!), but what’s with all the labels? It drives me crazy!!! I just find this too stressful and over-the-top dogmatic.

Food trends put us in a place of feeling the need to keep up. Its fickle, it’s fast and we open ourselves up to the race, to be a part of a something new that we don’t recognise or really understand. But somehow we get involved because the latest research is supporting it in such a way that it seems so very good for us!! It’s so compelling to the point it becomes part of a religion. A Food Religion.

My Health Is The Driving Factor, Not What’s In Fashion

Of course all my food is focused around edible plants so a lot of the recipes in my Super Ebooks and Online Cooking Courses do fit into the dairy free, sugar free, egg free and nut free boxes, but the intention behind the way they are created is totally different. Rather than creating a ‘vegan’ meal I think about what do my organs need for good health? I take ingredients that are going to nourish my organs and choose a cooking technique that’s going to make the dish down right tasty. The fads are not dictating the food, it’s what nature requires that is the driver. I often talk about using food as nature intended – that means the less we interfere with the food the better.

Try to zoom out and take a look at food trends that have come and gone. What food fad has stayed – none really. There is a big clue in that. Every week there is a new way of eating being presented to us that is THE way. I find it all kinda shocking actually, not the diets themselves, or the latest research on them, but the way these these fads leave consumers feeling. Feelings of stress, or the need to confirm is what I am talking about. The feeling that food has now become more than food. Those feelings and thoughts about the fad are now controlling you.

Real Wisdom On Food Trends

When I truly tune into a food fad or a food trend I always ring my mum to have a chat, I asked her recently about the trend to be gluten free and stay away from grains. My mum answered with “How do you feel when you eat grains darling”? I feel ok, I think…. why mum?” It’s about how you feel, it’s not how the fad makes you feel, focus on what makes you feel good personally, inside and out, rather than on the outside influences or food trends and fads”. Then she goes on to say, “Darling, it’s important to remember that all things come and then pass, and this too will pass as did margarine. I remember when they said butter was BAD and I thought this will never pass and look years later we know better that science has no place on our dinner plates” Thanks mum, you’re gold.

So that’s what I’m about, no fads, not fitting into any boxes, just simple healthy food. The only ‘way’ of eating that I would suggest we all follow is to “be grateful and chew your food!”

That’s my thoughts,
